Governing Council

The supreme governing body of the University, with oversight of strategy, finance and risk.

Purpose

The Governing Council is the supreme decision-making authority of Southshore university College, accountable for the institution's long-term direction, sustainability and public trust.

Key responsibilities

  • Approve the University's strategic plan, annual budget and major capital investments.
  • Oversee institutional risk, audit, compliance and financial sustainability.
  • Appoint and review the performance of the President and senior officers.
  • Safeguard the mission, values and academic freedom of the University.

Composition

Independent lay members, ex-officio senior officers, academic representatives, a student representative and government nominees, chaired by an independent Chair.

Meets

Quarterly, with additional extraordinary meetings as required.
